From the very beginning, the dance department attracted prominent figures in the world of dance. The leading dance journalist, critic, and librettist, Prof. Jan Reimoser (also known as Jan Rey), played a significant role in its establishment and became its first director. The teaching staff included such personalities as Zora \u0160emberov\u00e1, Sa\u0161a Machov, Robert Braun, Dr. M. A. Tymichov\u00e1, Laurette Hrdinov\u00e1, Anna Dubsk\u00e1, and others. From the very beginning, the teaching was conceived as a comprehensive dance education, including professional theory. The original four-year study program included classical dance, modern dance, and, of course, authentic and stylized forms of folk dance. Among the first graduates were Eli\u0161ka Bo\u0148kov\u00e1, Franti\u0161ek Halmaz\u0148a, Hana Machov\u00e1, Nata\u0161a Ryb\u00ednov\u00e1, Miroslava Vl\u00e1\u0161kov\u00e1, V\u011bra Urb\u00e1nkov\u00e1, and, in subsequent years, they were joined by Vlasta \u0160ilhanov\u00e1, V\u011bra Unterm\u00fcllerov\u00e1, Lubom\u00edr Re\u0161l, Zden\u011bk Dole\u017eal, Marta Syn\u00e1\u010dkov\u00e1, Pavel \u0160mok, Otto \u0160anda, Nad\u011b\u017eda Bla\u017e\u00ed\u010dkov\u00e1, and many others. Each name is a household name in Czechoslovak ballet (see the detailed list of graduates).[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab gutter_size=&#8221;2&#8243; column_padding=&#8221;2&#8243; title=&#8221;1959\u20131975&#8243; tab_id=&#8221;1734514948-2-55&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;184866&#8243;]The 1959\/1960 school year brought a change in the length of study. It was extended to five years to meet the needs and prepare graduates for dance practice. A significant stimulus for classical dance teaching was the visit of outstanding representatives of the Russian ballet school, A.M. Zhukov and O.A. Ilyina from Moscow, who introduced Czech teachers to a well-thought-out method of teaching classical dance. In the 1960s, the teaching staff was expanded to include notable personalities such as R\u016f\u017eena Mazalov\u00e1, Zden\u011bk Dole\u017eal, Anton\u00edn Landa, Karel Luk\u0161\u00edk, Jarom\u00edr Pet\u0159\u00edk, Jarmila Chourov\u00e1, Gabriela Rumlov\u00e1, Eva Melicharov\u00e1, Olga P\u00e1skov\u00e1, Franti\u0161ek Bonu\u0161, M\u00edla Urbanov\u00e1, Libu\u0161e Hynkov\u00e1, V\u011bra Urb\u00e1nkov\u00e1, and Jo\u017eka \u0160ar\u0161eov\u00e1, among others. Zora Erbanov\u00e1 came from Brno. Starting in the 1967\/1968 school year, the program was expanded to include three preparatory years, so that students could begin their studies in the sixth grade of elementary school. In the 1973\/1974 school year, the preparatory years were extended from three to four years. The teaching staff was further expanded to include leading soloists from the National Theatre Ballet in Prague: Astrid \u0160t\u00farov\u00e1, Jelena Kovalevsk\u00e1, Zinaida Kohoutov\u00e1, and Jaroslav Slavick\u00fd. Alb\u00edna Klikov\u00e1 and Ji\u0159\u00ed Pacl\u00edk also began working at the school, as did Mark\u00e9ta Z\u00e1d\u011brov\u00e1 and Mirka Vl\u00e1\u0161kov\u00e1 in the field of modern dance.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab gutter_size=&#8221;2&#8243; column_padding=&#8221;2&#8243; title=&#8221;1976\u20131989&#8243; tab_id=&#8221;1734515079251-2-1&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;186925&#8243;]In 1976, a folk specialization study program was created to train young people for the Czechoslovak State Song and Dance Ensemble. The ensemble&#8217;s choreographers, Libu\u0161e Hynkov\u00e1 and V\u011bra Svobodov\u00e1, and conservatory dance department teachers M\u00edla Urbanov\u00e1 and Bohumil Muchka were instrumental in establishing this program. Another folk specialization class was opened between 1981 and 1985, and between 1985 and 1989.  <\/p>\n<p>In 1978, a law was passed establishing an eight-year Music and Dance School (HT\u0160). The dance department of the conservatory was transformed into an independent educational institution specializing in dance. Teaching began in the 1980\/81 school year in the building at K\u0159\u00ed\u017eovnick\u00e1 7, with Zora Erbanov\u00e1 as the first director and Alb\u00edna Klikov\u00e1 as her deputy. Pupils were accepted for study after completing the 4th grade of elementary school, and their studies could be completed with a school-leaving examination and a diploma. From 1985 to 1989, Josef B\u00e1dal was the director of the school, with Alb\u00edna Klikov\u00e1 continuing to serve as his deputy.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab gutter_size=&#8221;2&#8243; column_padding=&#8221;2&#8243; title=&#8221;1990\u2013present day&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1734515092544-3-5&#8243;][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=&#8221;644537&#8243;]In 1990, a new school statute was approved, establishing a state conservatory known as the Prague Dance Conservatory. Ji\u0159\u00ed Pacl\u00edk served as the school&#8217;s director until 1996, with Eva Melicharov\u00e1 as his deputy. Starting in the 1990 school year, a five-year program in modern and folk dance was launched, accepting students who had completed their primary education. In 1995, the program was discontinued due to an amendment to the Education Act. In 1996, Jaroslav Slavick\u00fd was appointed director and led the conservatory until 2024. Eva Melicharov\u00e1 served as deputy director until the end of the 2001-2002 school year, and Zuzana Gan\u010devov\u00e1 took over the position in the 2002-2003 school year. From 2009 to 2015, Miroslav Hajn held this position. From 2015 to 2024, Yvetta Hubi\u010dkov\u00e1 took over the position. In 2024, Ji\u0159\u00ed Hor\u00e1k became the deputy for specialized subjects. At the beginning of the 1998-1999 school year, the position of Deputy Director for VVP was established to improve the level of VVP teaching, and PhDr. Evel\u00edna Beranov\u00e1 was appointed to this position. Since 2002, the deputy for VVP has been Mgr. Danu\u0161e K\u00e1brtov\u00e1, who served as the statutory deputy director from 2015 to 2024. In 2024, Mgr. Marie P\u0161enicov\u00e1 became the statutory deputy director of the school. Since the 1999-2000 school year, the curriculum has also been modified in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic to allow students in the second cycle of study to choose one of three main fields of study: classical dance, modern dance, and folk dance. In 2002, as part of the Internet to Schools initiative, the school acquired a computer classroom and, through the renovation of the attic, a video classroom, student lounges, a gym, and changing rooms for teachers of specialized subjects.
